Breaking up is never easy, especially if you've been together for over twelve years, as was the case with the New York Mets and Jose Reyes. However, it's important to move on after a break-up, no matter how difficult or impossible that seems; there are plenty other (shortstops) out in the sea. It's also imperative that you when you see the other party that you act as though breaking up was the best thing that ever happened to you, that you're doing great and they're missing out on the awesomeness that is you.
Instead, despite Reyes signing a 6-year deal with the Miami Marlins, the Mets are planning on airing a special video tribute for their formerly dreadlocked leadoff hitter prior to his first at-bat when the Marlins come to Queens on April 24.
Of course, the team insists this is no different than what they would do for any other longtime player who returns in another uniform, luminaries like Mike Piazza and Edgardo Alfonzo received similar tributes, as did Turk Wendell and Todd Pratt.
But you can't convince me that the Mets aren't secretly hoping that Jose will just break down in tears, tell them that he always loved them, only wants to be with them and that going to Miami was a huge mistake...
