Suns Prez Comes Out

Over a 40 year career in the NBA Rick Welts has risen from ballboy to his current role as team president of the Phoenix Suns. Sports being what they are, Welts felt he had to keep his sexuality hidden, even though as an executive he was subject to far less of the scrutiny that the players and coaches receive. Welts however decided recently that he has had enough and flew across the country to speak with his former mentor, David Stern and officially come out to him, and ask for advice. Additionally, Welts spoke with Steve Nash, Bill Russell (who was the Supersonics' head coach when Welts was a wee little ball boy), and Val Ackerman of the WNBA before speaking with the New York Times. 

I don't have much more to say than "good on ya," and that I look forward to the day when homosexuality is accepted everywhere and these types of announcements aren't necessary. We aren't there yet, but another step closer.
