LeBron Championship Would be Worth BILLIONS
I'm sure LeBron cares deeply about winning an NBA championship but Nike is sure to be far more interested in him hoisting the Naismith trophy at the end of the season. According to a Bloomberg News report if LeBron wins a championship it could be worth upwards of $4 BILLION to Nike in China alone.
Is that a lot of money? It sounds like a lot of money.
While Kobe Bryant remains the top dog in China popularity—it helps that he has five championship rings—a LeBron championship could turn the tide in the Far East.
"LeBron is white-hot with the Chinese basketball-loving youth, but his popularity and influence outside of that circle is limited," said Terry Rhoads, who left as Nike’s China sports marketing director in 2002. "One reason is the lack of titles."
Meanwhile, LeBron (the businessman) is not as concerned about the financial impact of a win. "It would do everything for me, as far as an individual standpoint,” James told reporters before Game 2. "I don’t care what it does marketing-wise. My marketing statement was in place for me as a professional."
