Let's Dance and Throw a Punch Occasionally

Written by slanch on .

Too often hockey fights get stopped before they fully develop and the fans are left with about 45 seconds of players holding each other's jerseys and a couple punches to the helmet, exciting but not really that effective. This fight between Cam Janssen of the St. Louis Blues and Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond of the New Jersey Devils ends up going over 3 minutes, but that's thanks in no small part to the two dancing around one another rather than it being an epic bout.

However, I appreciate Janssen shrugging the refs away, signaling that he wasn't finished and had more fight in him. Janssen definitely lands a couple good shots, and Leblond gets a couple in too, but ultimately, no one is bloodied and the fight serves no real purpose. If these guys aren't going to demolish one another properly than they should just get rid of fighting completely.
