Boston's Mayor Makes ANOTHER Verbal Gaffe

Written by slanch on .

In Boston we call our mayor Mumbles Menino because of his distinctive, incoherent speaking style. While Tom Menino has governed over Boston for 17 years, and lived his whole life in the city, he still seems unable, or unwilling, to pay attention to the rich sports history.

As we saw when he dedicated the Bobby Orr statue at the Garden, Menino has no idea who does WHAT in the Boston sports world. It turns out, Jason Varitek, the Red Sox' catcher, did NOT kick a memorable field goal in the snow to help the Patriots en route to the team's first Super Bowl championship. If Mumbles can't remember THAT, it's certainly asking a lot of him to know the commissioner of the NBA's name, even if he is sitting 5 feet behind Hizzoner. It's just another "ionic" moment in Boston sports I suppose...

Donald Stern is a US Attorney in Boston, David STERN is the NBA commissioner. The best part is how proud Menino is for getting it right and he didn't even get the name he was confusing right.

Sigh.

Go Celtics!
