To honor the games and the people participating in them, The Slanch Report will be bringing you TWICE DAILY the Hot Olympian of the Day. We will bring you every day two otherwise likely unknown-to-you Olympians who, while maybe not quite worthy of a place on the medal stand, certainly are worth being placed on a pedestal for us to enjoy. Celebrate them all on the Hot Olympians page.
Magdalena Neuner is incredibly popular in her native Germany, winning the Sportswoman of the Year award in 2007, no small feat for the then-21 year old biathlete. Participating in a sport that generally flies well below the radar elsewhere around the globe, Neuner has made quite a name for herself, thanks in no small part to her 16 World Cup victories and 30 overall podium finishes. In Germany, where the biathlon is the most popular winter sport, Neuner's dominance has made her a national figure with plenty of endorsements and celebrity, and an offer from Playboy (Germany) to pose nude, which she declined.
Off the course, Neuner is very involved in knitting, a hobby she's very invested in and for which she even runs her own specialized website. Already having won a silver medal in the sprinting competition, Neuner is hoping to take home the gold in the overall biathlon later in the Vancouver games. You know what's hotter than a dope cross-country skier? A dope cross-country skier who is a crack shot with a rifle. Neuner!
