To honor the games and the people participating in them, The Slanch Report will be bringing you TWICE DAILY the Hot Olympian of the Day. We will bring you every day two otherwise likely unknown-to-you Olympians who, while maybe not quite worthy of a place on the medal stand, certainly are worth being placed on a pedestal for us to enjoy. Celebrate them all on the Hot Olympians page.
Maëlle Ricker's first Olympics were the 1998 games in Nagano where she competed in the half-pipe event. Due to injury, she missed the 2002 games but was back in '06 in the boardercross event finishing with a concussion and in 4th place. Yesterday, on her home Canadian soil, Ricker took home her first gold medal in boardercross, en route to the hottest podium of athletes of the Winter Olympics.
The 31-year-old now can add Olympic champion to her impressive resume, already the #1 ranked snowboarder in the World Cup, the Vancouver native also has multiple X Games golds. Everything about her is golden to me.
