Knicks Get a Dagger to the Heart

Written by slanch on .

The New York Knicks have done something completely outlandish in recent weeks, they've been actually WINNING games! Everyone can agree that the NBA is better off when one of its signature franchises isn't mired in bad decision after bad decision – we're looking solely at YOU Isiah Thomas...

Wednesday night the Knicks took on the unstoppable Boston Celtics who had 10 straight wins coming in to the game. It was a back-and-forth game all night with the Knicks (and in particular Amare) taking control. However, the veteran Celts never gave in and hung close, taking the lead late in the 4th quarter. It was bandied around but with .4 seconds remaining, Paul Pierce delivered the dagger into the Knicks' fans hearts, burying a jumper for the lead and the win. While Amare managed to launch up a 3 from WAAY downtown that he made that would have won the game, time had already expired and the Celtics were walking out of New York winners.

On the floor Nate Robinson was particularly ecstatic, jumping (and falling) all over Paul Pierce after his last-second shot and then nearly breaking his neck in the process. (There's a great shot of it here.)

Meanwhile, Sports Illustrated managed to snap this gorgeous shot of the aftermath of Nate's fall, with KG bowing to the Knicks fans, Ray-Ray helping the one-time Knick off the floor and Paul continuing his victory lap around the court. The NBA: where amazing sometimes happens (feel free to play around and use that sometime NBA marketers...)
